Public Service Announcement on Funerals and COVID-19

We, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, have been closely monitoring the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. The health and public safety of the community that we serve, and our staff, has always been a top priority and concern. The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has issued guidance to funeral homes through the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) and our Tennessee Funeral Directors Association (TFDA) to prohibit public funeral services and public visitations In accordance with the CDC, NFDA, and TFDA we are suspending these public gatherings until April 1st. After this date we will reassess this decision based on the expert recommendations. In addition, the President of the United States and the Governor of Tennessee are pleading for everyone to refrain from public gatherings. We want to reassure everyone that we are still here to serve you. In accordance with the CDC, we are still conducting small private family services and/or private visitations to honor the life of your deceased loved one. We are taking our already diligent cleaning procedures to another level to ensure that all public spaces within the funeral home are disinfected/sanitized to the best of our ability. In summary:

  • Private family only visitation/services at the funeral home
  • Private family burials
  • Suspending the use of the funeral home’s lounge for food or gatherings
  • Families affected will be offered a public memorial service at a later date for no additional expense

We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time. We feel we need to do our part in doing what is asked of us in helping to contain the spread of this very contagious virus by implementing social distancing. Again, we will reassess this situation in 2 weeks. These are uncharted waters for us all. May God bless and keep you. Please stay healthy!
