William H. "Bill" Jones

William “Bill” H. Jones of Springfield passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Jones; sons, William B. (Lynne) Jones and Richard (Jana) Allen Jones; daughter, Kathy (Bob) Sneed; grandchildren, Bruce (Missy) Jones, Maurisa (Corey) Richardson, Jarrod (Robin) Holman, Justin Holman, Jeanne (Chris) Huliska, seven step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He attended Springfield Baptist Church all his life and was a Sunday School teacher there since 1950. He was also the Training Union Director, Chairman of the Deacon Body and Church Moderator for 16 years. He was co-chairman of the Building Fund when the new church was built several years ago. He was a World War II Veteran and served in two theatres of operation during that War. For many years after the War he worked for Belknap Hardware Company out of Louisville, KY while owning the Henry & Bell Furniture Company in Springfield. He was active in civic activities as Chairman of the Springfield Planning and Zoning Board for 12 years, and Chairman of the committee to rewrite the City of Springfield’s new charter. In 1955 he chartered the Springfield Industrial Development Corp. with Charles Ralph and became Chairman of the Springfield Industrial Development Corp. He was the former president of the Springfield Jaycees, the Springfield/Robertson County Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield Lion’s Club. One of his final projects seen to accomplishment was the Campaign Chairman of the NorthCrest Hospital Fund Raising Committee. He was an active member of the Gideons since its beginning in Springfield and was the owner of the Furniture Center. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 10am at the Springfield Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Oakley officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday morning at the church from 9am until the hour of service. The family requests memorial contributions be made to NorthCrest Hospice, Gideons International or to the Springfield Baptist Church. All donations may be sent in c/o Austin & Bell Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to NorthCrest Hospice, his caregiver, Lanie Adams and Dr. Tommy Crunk and Staff.
