Thomas "Tommy" Overby

Thomas “Tommy” Overby, age 71, of Greenbrier, TN passed away at his residence on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. He was born in Robertson County, Tennessee to Henry Lawrence Overby and Annie Lou Jones Overby on December 25, 1940. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty White. He worked as a supervisor for Dupont Industries for over 36 years. He was the mayor of Greenbrier from 1988 to 1996 and served as a City Alderman from 2002-2006. He was a man who loved his family, was very dedicated to his wife Alice, loved to watch his grandchildren at sporting events, loved to play golf in his younger years and was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. He was an avid Republican. A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 2PM at the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Springfield, TN with his son, Ben Overby and Bro. Marvin Crouch officiating. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years and love of his life, Alice Troope Overby; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Carol Overby, Springfield, TN, Ben & Kim Overby, Columbus, GA, Keith & Theda Overby, Springfield, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Mitzi & Mike Swift, Clarksville, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby & Becky Overby, Greenbrier, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Linda & Clayton Jackson, Adams, TN; grandchildren, Alea Overby, Christopher Overby, Justin Overby, J. T. Overby, Alex Overby, Caleb Swift, Matthew Swift, Hannah Swift, Eli Swift, Garrett Overby, Delainey Overby; 2 great grandsons, Brody and Gunner. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 from 4-8pm at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier and on Monday at the Hillcrest Church of Christ from 12-2pm prior to the service at 2pm. The final resting place will be at the Greebrier Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be, Christopher Overby, Justin Overby, J. T. Overby, Alex Overby, Caleb Swift, Eli Swift, Garrett Overby, Mike Swift. Honorary Pallbearer, will be Matthew Swift who is serving in the military.
