Ralph O'Neil Mitchell

Ralph O’Neil Mitchell, Sr., age 88, of Madison, TN and former resident of Ridgetop, TN for 35 years, passed away at Alive Hospice, Nashville, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, 11AM, October 23, 2014 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, Greenbrier with Bro. Jack Martin officiating. He was born in Mansfield, TN, January 14, 1926 the son of Charles Larry Moore Mitchell and Sophia Annie Hinson Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by his son, Stephen Mitchell; brothers, Howard, Oren, Dave, Herman & Tom Mitchell; sisters, Hettie Michell Warren & Odie Belle Mitchell Morrow. Mr. Mitchell served in the U. S. Army and then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for a combined total of 35 years. He was a long time member of Goodlettsville Church of Christ and Greenridge Church of Christ. He served as a deacon at both churches. He loved to work in the yard. He could ‘fix’ anything and could often be found working on the car and other things at the house. He always had ‘projects’ that were on-going. While a resident of Ridgetop, he was always involved in community events and attended the city meetings. He is survived by the love of this life for 65 years, Doris Quillen Mitchell, Madison, TN; son, Neil Mitchell, Greenbrier, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Kay & Allen Bethel, Madison, TN; sister, Cora Flanagan Brown, Luxora, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Lori Calvert, Linda Rogers, Mark Bethel, Bryan Mitchell & Jeff Mitchell; 7 great grandchildren, Jazmyn Bethel, Jalen & Jordan Rogers, Breslin & Braxton Schroder, Tori Calvert & Austin Bethel. Final resting place will be at the Downey Cemetery in Hohenwald, TN with Army military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Bethel, Mark Bethel, Braxton Schroder, Jalen Rogers, David Fry, Wayne Holloway, Jimmy Barber, Austin Bethel, & Jeremy Fish.
