James “Herman” Akins, age 88 of Springfield, Tennessee, died Friday, October 23, 2020 at NorthCrest Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View at 11 o’ clock am on Wednesday, October 28th, with Bro. Don Dungan officiating. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday, October 27th, and again on Wednesday, from 10AM until the hour of service at 11:00AM. Mr. Akins was born on June 2, 1932, in Williamson County, Tennessee to the late George “Henry” and “Lillie” Edna Tidwell Akins. He was retired from Rechiold Chemical Company. He was a Christian. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Darlene Akins and Donna Akins Neighbors; and brothers, G.H., Oscar, Leslie, and Jimmy Akins. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Akins; son, James Henry Akins; a brother, Ernest Akins; a sister, Joyce (Kenny) Houchin; grandchildren, Karen Fitts Sloan, Dayna Claiborne, Brandon Claiborne, B.J. Neighbors, Brent Neighbors, and Melody (Justin) Hopper; great-grandchildren, Garret Sloan, Tanner Sloan, Tyler Jeanette, Wyatt, Cory, Maggie, and others; numerous nieces, nephews & loving friends; and special friends, Pam & Krista Binkley.
