Dan M. Tucker

Dan M. Tucker, age 87 of Millersville died on May 16, 2014 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Dan was born on September 2, 1926 in Waco, Texas to H.D. and Kathleen Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank Tucker, Dewitt Tucker, Jr. and Jim Tucker; two sisters, Anna Margaret Stroud and Mary Devore. Having served faithfully and honorably, Dan was retired from the United States Navy on the 1st Day of January, 1975. His rank was as Photographic Intelligenceman First Class. Dan served outside continental U.S. from May 1952 to June 1953 at U.S. Naval Cargo Handling Battalion #8, Navy 3912, Sasebo, Japan and U.S. Naval Cargo Handling Battalion #6, Navy 3923 at Yokosuka, Japan. Service vessels and stations served on from December 1944 to December 1968, USS JARVIS, U.S. PACIFIC; USS INTREPID, U.S. PACIFIC FLEET; USS PICKAWAY, U.S. PACIFIC FLEET and USS HANCOCK, U.S.PACIFIC FLEET. Decorations, Medals, Badges, Commendations Citations and Campaign Ribbons awarded to Dan were the Korean Service Medal; United States Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He is most deserving of the Military Honors that will be given by the U. S. Navy at his interment at the Tennessee Veteran's State Military Cemetery. Dan is survived by his wife Opal Tucker; son, David (Trish) Luther of Columbia, Eddie Luther of White House, Gary (Dora) Luther of Franklin; daughter, Sandra (James) Harvey of Columbia; grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Luther, Kelli (Brent) Warf, Chad (Leslie) Harvey, Matthew (Renee) Harvey, Thuan phong Luther, Hohi tram Nguyen, Thuan Nha Luther, Bich Phoung; great-grandchildren, Caden Warf, Wyatt Harvey, Chloe Harvey and Broklyn Harvey and a host of friends who respected and loved him. Funeral service honoring his life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 20th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home, White House. Interment will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Middle Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery on McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN. Serving as pallbearers, Bobby Baker, Miles Johnson, Clyde Hill, Brent Warf, Andrew Luther, Matthew Harvey, Joe Newberry and John Lisiter. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Millersville Police Department and the Millersville Fire Department.
