William Henry Phillips

William Henry Phillips, age 88, of Greenbrier, TN and formerly of South Haven, Mississippi passed away at NorthCrest Medical Center on Thursday, March 7, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, Mar. 11, 1PM at Austin & Bell Greenbrier Chapel with Bro. Donnie Bryant officiating. He was born on September 22, 1924 to Roy A. Phillips and Oma Ell Hester Phillips in Stewart County, TN. He served proudly for his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. He was a truck driver for many years driving to many cities all over the country to deliver mail for the U. S. Post Office. He loved his church, his family, hunting and fishing and raising a garden. He was a simple man with tremendously deep family roots. He was a Charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Roy A. and Oma Hester Phillips, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Faye Phillips; brother, James Phillips; sisters, Alice Greenwell, Virginia Nelson, & Hazel Osborne; sons, William E. & Jerry Randall Phillips; step-son, Lenny Hoy. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Billy W, & Tena Phillips, Greenbrier, TN, Ronnie D. & Carla Phillips, Goodlettsville, TN & Tony L. Phillips, Greenbrier, TN; daughters & son-in-law, Ginny & Gil Henry, Greenbrier, TN & Gayle Smith, Greenbrier, TN; brothers Roy (Mary) Phillips, Clarksville, TN & Alford “Red” (Marie) Phillips, Ledbetter, KY; sister, Ann (John) Pentecost, Springfield, TN; 4 step-children, Johnny H. (Jan) Hoy, Memphis, TN, Rusty Hoy, South Haven, MS, Katie (Kenny) Griffin, Horn Lake, MS, & Barbara (Ray) Roberson, South Haven, MS; 8 grandchildren, Chellie (Brad) Pearce, Becky (Jason) Davis, Laura (Jason) Holleman, Steven Phillips, Christopher Phillips, Austin Phillips, Sean Heatherly, Nichole (Donnie) Bowen; 9 great grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Mar. 10 at the Greenbrier Chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home from 3-8pm & Monday, Mar. 11 from 11-1pm the hour of the service. Final resting place will be at Robertson County Memorial Gardens with Donnie Bowen, Jason Davis, Steven Phillips, Brad Pearce, Jason Holleman, Christopher Phillips, & Austin Phillips serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Gamble, Ivan Bell & Joe Brown. The family requests memorial contributions are made “In Memory of Henry Phillips” to the charity of your choice.
