Robert Peck Ziegler

Robert Peck Ziegler entered into this world on February 21, 1935 and departed to be with his heavenly Father on September 17, 2012. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank W. Ziegler, his mother, Mary Josephine Peck Ziegler, and his brother, Frank W. Ziegler, Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted friend and wife, Patricia McKnight Ziegler, his two wonderful step-daughters, Dana T. (Marcus) Manno and Marsha T. (Robert) Barsky, and his step-grandchildren, Kai Mote, Evelyn Grace Manno and Jillian Lee Manno. He is survived by his half-brother, Donald S. (Mary Jane) Ziegler, his sister-in-law, Mary Anne Ziegler, his nieces and nephews Frank W. (Susan) Ziegler, III, Robert L. Ziegler, Ashley Ziegler and Lore (Mark) Bidstrup. Bob was born and raised in Nashville, where he attended Woodmont Grammar School and the Old Duncan Preparatory School. He was a proud and patriotic American, and after serving his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict he returned to the U.S. where, upon his discharge, he attended Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, and then the Vanderbilt Law School. Upon graduation Bob practiced law with honor and distinction in Nashville until his death. Bob was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church and he was a member of many professional and social organizations. Bob was known for his kindness, generosity and gentleness, and he was respected as a real and true gentleman. He was a deeply caring man who was always loyal to his family, his Church and friends. Bob quietly befriended his fellow man in many ways, never wanting recognition or attention, but always willing to step in and be a good neighbor to his neighbors in any way he could. Bob was also known for his love of animals, and is survived by his four beloved cats, Ernie, E-Z, Prissi and Sisi, and two stray cats, Mr. Black and Yummy, who think they are Ziegler kitties, and indeed they are. His hobbies, in addition to traveling all over the country by back-roads with his beloved wife, included gun-collecting and antique automobile restoration. A funeral service celebrating the life of Robert Peck Ziegler will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 1pm at Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Avenue, Nashville, with Reverend Ken Edwards officiating. A private family burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield, Tennessee with Ray Tarkington, Frank Porter, Pete Houston, Aubrey Harwell, Jr., Tony McKnight and John Buffaloe serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Blanton Smith, Vince Wehby, John Burton, Bob Hardison, Carney Bell, Charles W. (Bo) Jones and Rev G. Simmons Robichaux. Visitation with the family will be at Belmont United Methodist Church on Thursday from 11am until 1pm, the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Belmont United Methodist Church Benevolent Fund or the Nashville Humane Society.
