Robert D. “Bob” Moore, Jr., age 91, of Springfield, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Springfield First United Methodist Church at 2pm with Reverend Jerry Wallace and Dr. Hubert Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Terry Thomas, Steve Parker, Steve Byington, Will Byington, Ben Dorris, Leon Ridenour, Matt Morgan and Rick Hicks serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Leslie Doss, John Martin, Ron DeBerry, Scott Bagwell, Jeff Payne, Charlie Brinkley, Marvin Smith, Gene Beck and David Wimpee. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4-8pm and again on Saturday from 12:30am until the hour of service at 2pm. Mr. Moore was born March 20, 1925 in Springfield to the late Robert D. and Ella Henry Moore, Sr. He attended high school in Springfield and graduated from Baylor School of Chattanooga. He then served in the U.S. Navy and upon his return attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He joined the family real estate business, G.S. Moore and Son, after college where he was an admired and respected auctioneer and realtor. Mr. Moore was a “Big Orange” fan who also enjoyed golfing. He was a life-time member of Springfield First United Methodist Church where he served at the local, district and conference levels. He was also an active member of The Lions Club and enjoyed participating in the Minstrel Shows. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Betty Cook Moore; brother, Joe H. Moore of Springfield; children, Mary Ella (Leon) Ridenour of Knoxville, Robert “Dick” (Lori) Moore, III of Gallatin, Rena (Steve) Byington of Franklin, Melinda (Steve) Parker of Gallatin and Anita (Terry) Thomas of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Will Byington, Amy Byington Jones, Libby Saunders Hicks, Shannon Watson, Jackson Parker, Katie Parker, Kristin Thomas Dorris, Bethany Thomas, Sarah Thomas Morgan and Lindsey Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Ben Byington, Jack Byington, Carson Jones, Abby Hicks, Drew Hicks, John Hicks, Gavin Dorris, Griffin Dorris, Lauren Watson and Brianna Goods. The family would like to thank the caregivers who all treated Mr. and Mrs. Moore like part of their own family. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Springfield First United Methodist Church, NorthCrest Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
