Martha Jean Williams

Martha “Jean” Williams of Cross Plains, Tenn., formerly of Hermitage, PA. She passed away at 4:16 a.m. Thursday (1-8-15) in her home, surrounded by her family. She was 76. Mrs. Williams was born in Harrisville, a daughter to Harry E. Richards Sr. and Mary O. (Brooks) Richards. Jean was a 1956 graduate of the former Harrisville High School and went on to receive her licensed practical nurse license from St. John’s School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She worked at the former Bashline-Rossman Hospital in Grove City in the pediatrics department. She also worked at Hospitality Care Nursing Home in Hermitage. At the age of 50, she graduated from Penn State University’s Behrend campus, Erie, with a bachelor’s degree in history. The former Grove City hospital nurse became teacher at 50. She retired from nursing and moved to Tennessee to do some substitute teaching. She joined a Sit “n” Stich class of cross stitching, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed playing the piano. Jean was a special mother to her four boys, grandmother to her 20 grandchildren and great-grandmother to her eight great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her sons, Jimmy Williams and his wife Cindy, Cross Plains, Tenn.; Michael Williams and his wife Kathy, Springfield, Tenn.; Jason Williams and his wife Kimberly, Mercer; and Brandon Williams and his wife Missy, Cross Plains; a sister, Nancy Deloe and her husband John, McKean, Pa.; and a brother, Harry E. Richards Jr. and his wife Lee, Grove City. She also leaves behind her loving care givers Rusty Dearmon and Sean Williams both of Springfield, Tenn. and her pets. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie M. “Bill” Williams, whom she married in February 1962 and who passed away July 3, 1993; and two brothers, Dale and David Richards.
