Margarette Hancock Swann

Margarette Hancock Swann, age 97, of Cross Plains, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11am at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Dr. Bill Owen officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Jim Bradley, Kenny Swann, Derek Dee, Judy Bradley, Daryle Yergler, Lynn Keith, Leslie Hancock and Mac Swann serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be held at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 4-8pm and on Thursday morning at the church from 10am until the time of service. Mrs. Swann was born March 21, 1915 in Robertson County to the late James M. and Elizabeth Widick Hancock. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sprouse Brothers and First National Bank and was a life-long member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Swann is preceded in death by her husband, George Swann, her brother, Everette Hancock, her sisters, Nellie Hancock Denning and Carrie Hancock Mazanec, and her niece, Helen Denning Turner. She is survived by nieces, Anne Swann of Cross Plains, Linda (Robert) Cotter of Orlando, FL, Martha (Jeff) Cooper of Jacksonville, FL and Connie Swann of Cross Plains; nephews, Ben (Mary Frances) Hancock of Columbia, TN and Jack Hancock of Roseville, CA; great-nephews, Joe (Vicki) Swann of Cross Plains, Jim (Dianna) Cotter of Orlando, FL and Kenny (Lori) Swann of Cross Plains; great-nieces, Judy (Jim) Bradley of Ashland City, Ann Beth (Daryle) Yergler of Marietta, GA and Amanda (Scott) Jernigan of Bethel, PA; great-great-nieces and nephews, Jenna, Benton and Nathan Swann, Alex and Chris Cotter, Morgan, Mac, Andrew and Wilson Swann, Amanda (Derek) Dee, Sarah (Jason)McMullen, Ginny and Emily Yergler, and Carrie (Jacob) Meyer and Caleb Jernigan; and great-great-great-nieces and nephews, Riley, Harper and Tanner Dee and Levi and Ellie Meyer. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and may be sent in c/o Austin & Bell. Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
