Luell Orbin Smith

Luell Orbin Smith, age 87 of Franklin, Tennessee went to see his Heavenly Father face to face on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Somerby of Franklin. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Springfield, TN beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a celebration service to follow at 12:00 p.m. with brother Jim Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopewell cemetery. Luell was born June 27, 1932 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late William Thomas and Reba Arzella Hill Smith. He attended Rule High School as an honor student while also singing in a quartet known as Melody Ayers. Following high school, he graduated from UT Knoxville where he studied civil engineering and music education. In addition, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary which led him to serve as a Minister of Music and Education in North Carolina and Tennessee as well as working for the Baptist Sunday School Board for 27 years. Luell continued to serve the Lord after his retirement by acting as interim minister of music at several churches. First and foremost, Luell loved his Lord and Savior. His personal relationship with Jesus was evident by his unwavering integrity, giving heart, gentle spirit, service and unconditional love for others, especially his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Robert Len “R.L.” Smith; sister Donna Faulkner. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Edwards Smith of Franklin, Tennessee, sons, Conor (Sonnie) Smith of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Mark (Laura) Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter, Celeste (Mark) Hammond of Franklin, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren. Pallbearers are grandsons, Carter, Colton, and Chipper Hammond; Andrew, Isaac, and Daniel Smith. The family requests that donations be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church Mission Fund.
