L.A. Sturdivant,

L.A. Sturdivant, born Lathan Adolph Sturdivant, Jr., passed away peacefully on February 22, 2014 with his life companion, best friend, and loving spouse, Kathy, at his side. L.A. loved politics. Although he never held office, he was a true statesman, always willing to engage in good natured discussion and lively debate. He had a passion for literature of all types and persuasions and could pen a story as well as any. L.A. was always civic minded and served on numerous committees, including The Downtown Council, for which he was Chairman several terms, the Board of Directors for the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, and on the State level Governmental Affairs Committee. He was instrumental in many improvements of downtown Macon. He loved his community and worked tirelessly to encourage forward thinking and progressive action for Macon/Bibb County, the community in which he lived and raised his family. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Jere Baxter Lodge #742, Al Menah Shrine Temple. Being a native of Nashville, Tennessee, he attended Isaac Litton High School, Class of 1958. He then attended Vanderbilt University, later holding a position at the University as a fund raiser, before accepting the position of National Advertising Manager with the Dr. Pepper Corporation in Dallas, Texas. His career path then took him to his first love, broadcasting and advertising, a field in which he held numerous managerial positions throughout the United States. In 1998, as General Manager of an NBC affiliate, WMGT 41, in Macon, Georgia, he retired from broadcasting when he and his wife purchased The Woodpile Unfinished Store, which they operated until 2008. He leaves a void for many. L.A. was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lathan and Elizabeth Sturdivant; his loving brother, John; and his loving son, Jeffrey Sturdivant. He is survived by his spouse, Kathy Sturdivant of Macon; his children: Wade L. Sturdivant of Dallas, Texas, Michael B. Sturdivant of Blue Mountain Beach, Florida, Lissa Sturdivant Tilousi of Prescott, Arizona, Shana Alverson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Melissa Reno of Jacksonville, Florida; his grandchildren: Dylan Sturdivant, Max Reno, Jack Reno, and Nixon Reno; and his loving brother, H. Thomas Sturdivant of Nashville, Tennessee; nieces and nephews: John Sturdivant, Jr., David Sturdivant (Diane), and Stephanie Sturdivant, all of Nashville, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Sue Sturdivant of Nashville, Tennessee.
