Evelyn Carroll Waggoner

Evelyn Frances Carroll “Mo-Mo” Waggoner, age 86, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Thomas West. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3pm at the Oakland Baptist Church with Brother Daniel Dennis, Brother Bob Carroll and Brother Frank Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery with Brother Steve Freeman closing the service. Kyle Tate, Chad Tate, Sonny Hill, Allen Strickland, Jason Walker and Jeffrey Hunt served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the Pink Ladies of NorthCrest Hospital and close family and friends. Visitation was held at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 2-8pm and again on Sunday from 10am until 1:30pm. Visitation was also held at the church on Sunday from 2pm until the hour of service. Mrs. Waggoner was born September 3, 1928 in Robertson County to the late Thomas York and Floyd Roe Carroll. She worked as the manager of Cato’s when it was located in downtown Springfield and later worked for Porter Brown Limestone. After retiring she devoted her time to her grandchildren, family and the Pink Ladies at NorthCrest Hospital with which she served for many years. She was a life-long member of the Oakland Baptist Church where her family donated the land for the church and the cemetery. Her life was family, church and community as she touched everyone that she came into contact with for the better. In addition to her parents Mrs. Waggoner is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Donald Waggoner and her siblings, Allie Carroll, Alma Brown, James Graden Carroll, Carney Carroll, Annie Laura Carroll, Rayburn Carroll, Ara Bell West, Herbert Carroll and Lorene Ellis. She is survived by her daughters, Sheila Waldrop and husband Max, Susan Tate and husband Gary, both of Springfield; brother, Monroe Carroll and wife Geneva of Springfield; grandchildren, Emily Dye, Amy Hughes, Kimberly Hill and husband Sonny, Kyle Tate, Chad Tate and wife Bryanna; and great-grandchild, Molly Hughes. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or to the Oakland Baptist Church. Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
