Clarence Kenneth Stewart

Rev. Clarence Kenneth Stewart, 90, of Cottontown, passed into the presence of the Lord Sunday, February 12, 2017, in Gallatin. Born July 5, 1926, in Ashland, KY, he was the son of Thurston and Pauline Stewart and served in the United States Army during World War II. Rev. Stewart was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and was ordained into ministry in 1953. He served as a full-time pastor at First Baptist Church Livingston, First Baptist Church Pulaski, Cash Point Baptist Church and Station Camp Baptist Church. He served as interim pastor for many congregations throughout Middle Tennessee. He also served as chaplain at the Giles County Hospital, Partnership Missions Director for the Tennessee Baptist Convention and consultant with the Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes. He served as president and vice president of the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention and was 1975 Pulaski VFW Man of the Year. Rev. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ivan Stewart, his sister, Leona Williams and his daughter, Karen Stewart Elliott. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Lou Stewart of Cottontown; brother, Dr. Charles E. Stewart (Clara Lee) of Ashland, KY; daughter, Susan Wise (Ted) of White House; son Dr. Randy Stewart (Cathy) of Birmingham, AL and son, Scott Stewart (Sarah) of Pulaski, TN; grandchildren, Brian Wise, Beth O'Neill (Daniel) all of White House, TN, Dr. Mary Catherine Laney (Scott) of Birmingham, AL, Blevin Shelnutt (Charles Harlan) of New York, Genna Shelnutt of Charleston, SC, Allison Cease (Alan) of Birmingham, AL and Webb Stewart of Pulaski, TN; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends. Memorials may be sent to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home P.O. Visitation will be 4-8pm Tuesday, February 14th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House and Wednesday, February 15th 11am-1pm at Portland First Baptist Church, Portland, TN Funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15th at 1pm at the church.
