Carlton C. Hunter

Carlton C. Hunter, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Tuesday evening, October 8th, 2013 with his family by his side. He was 82 years of age. Known to his family as "Da", He was born on the 28th of May 1931, in Cedar Hill, Tennessee to the late Buford and Lela Hunter. He resided in Cottontown, Tennessee. Mr. Hunter was employed by Unarco for over 30 years where he worked as a Tool and Die maker. After his retirement, he worked at The Church at Grace Park for 12 years. A man of great character and faith, Carlton was known for his easy going nature, integrity, relationship with God and devotion to his family. His faith was deep and profound, and permeated everything that he did. He wanted his children and grandchildren to love the Lord and be guided by Christian principles. He was an avid reader and student of the Bible. He was an active and proud member of The Church at Grace Park. He loved woodwork and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, supporting his team, the UT Vols. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Carlton's first love was his family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Hunter. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Joe Howard Hunter of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dale Leftwich of Hendersonville; sister, Mildred Hart of Springfield; grandchildren, Kimberly Jolley and husband Steven, Jeremy Leftwich and wife Lindsay, Holly Leftwich, Jo-Jo Hunter, Justin Hunter and Nathan Hunter; great-grandchildren, Hunter Nicole Jolley, Tyler Jolley, Jalen Hunter, Anna Grace Hunter and Alicia Hunter. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Village Chapel at The Church at Grace Park where the funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Bro. Bob Cook officiating. The interment service is to follow at White House Memorial Gardens. Those honored to serve as casket bearers during the service include Jeremy Leftwich, Steven Jolley, Jo-Jo Hunter, Justin Hunter, Kevin Cook, Caleb Cook, Steven Gillespie and Jon Brooks. Honored to serve as honorary casket bearers include Gordon Callawaay and Tyler Jolley. In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Carlton's memory may be directed to the Sarah Cannon Research Institute, 250 25th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37293.
