Brice Nelson Long

Brice Nelson Long, age 79 of White House, died on October 29, 2008 at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield. Brice was born on May 4, 1929, in Giles County, Tennessee to the late Howard and Gradie Johnson Long. He is also preceded in death by a brother, James Carl Long; sister, Martha Lena Long; granddaughter, Makaya Ann Carter. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, JoAnn Hallum Long; 3 children & 5 step-children all of whom he adored. Debby (Gary) Carter of Lafayette, Tennessee, Gary (Jeannie) Long of Cleveland, Tennessee, Phyllis (Jim) Lackey of Franklin, Tennessee, Mike (Wenda) Hallum of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Betty Shoemake of Savannah, Tennessee, Karen Hallum of Savannah, Timmy Hallum of Hendersonville and Jimmy (Paula) Hallum of Hendersonville; sisters, Violet Wells, Helen (David) Stone, Glenda (Ken) Baker and brother, Ronald Long; grandchildren, Clint (Lori) Carter, Holly (Joey) Flowers, Ryan (Brooke) Lackey, Adam Lackey, Eric (Rachel) Lackey, Cory McRae, Hannah and Levi Long; step-grandchildren, Alisha, Sara, Genia, T.J., Nathan, Jason, James Shoemake, Joey Shoemake, Brian Shoemake, Lee Ann, Ashley, Jo Anna, Brandy; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Canence Carter, Braylon Flowers, Harper, Saylor nad Mason Lackey; step-great-grandchildren, Hailey, Kayla, Chasidy, Nathan, Adam, Chelsea, J.W., MaKayla, Jo Ann, Jamie, Angel, Alissa, Theria, Jon Jon, Antonio, Rianna, Andrew, Michael, Joey, Katelyn, William, J.T., Brandon; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Mr. Long served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1946 until 1948. He was employed at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois from 1949 until 1968 and later employed by Peterbilt and Light Incorporated in Nashville. He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle man who enjoyed serving others more than himself. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 31, 2008 from 12:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 - 1:00 PM. Brother Ray Carson and Brother Tim Zuniga will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Clint Carter, Ryan, Adam, and Eric Lackey, Cory McRae and Levi Long. Austin & Bell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
