Naomi Mae Butler

Naomi Mae Johnson Butler, age 89, of Springfield, passed away on October 23, 2020 at the Waters of Springfield. Naomi was born on April 16, 1931 in Peoria, Illinois to the late Elsie May Metzler and Charles Leroy Johnson. Naomi graduated from Cass Technical High School class of 1949. She aspired to be a fashion or interior designer. Naomi was an accomplished seamstress and an exacting accountant and tax preparer. Naomi married Michael (Mickey) Abraham Jr. in Angola, Indiana, February 28, 1949 and they raised three children in Detroit, Michigan. Naomi was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom while her children were young and helped Mickey at their family store whenever possible, cleaning, cashier and stocking the shelves. After her children were in school and her mom Elsie Johnson came to live with them, Naomi worked for J.L. Hudson Department Store as well as a bookkeeper and income Tax Preparer. Naomi continued preparing income tax statements for special clients well into her eighties. She moved to Tennessee in 1996 to be closer to her family and was a great help in her son's property management business. Naomi attended Life House Fellowship church in Joelton, TN. She was well loved by everyone for her kindness and quick sense of humor. She was incredibly proud of her children and all her grandchildren and boasted about them at every opportunity. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Lynn Abraham and brother, William "Bill" Johnson. Naomi is survived by sons, Mike Abraham III and wife Elaine of McDonough, Georgia and Martin A. Abraham and wife Kim of Springfield; grandchildren, Ashlae Abraham Sympson, Preston Abraham, Garrett Abraham, Nolan Abraham, Liam Abraham, Alexis Katerina "Lexi" Abraham; great-grandchildren, Johnny Sympson, Adyson Campbell, Ember Sympson. Naomi requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission. All donations may be sent in care of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Life House Fellowship Church on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11:00am with a reception following the service.
