John Freeman Perry

We are here today to celebrate the life of John Freeman Perry, Jr., who was called Johnny by his family. He was the first child born to Marjorie Strange Perry and John Freeman Perry, Sr. He was a big brother to four younger sisters: Peggy, Martha, Carol, and Christine. Not only was Johnny a brother, he was a son, a father, a grandfather, a foster father and friend to many. Johnny was of the Baptist Faith. He made his career in the printing business. He was an excellent photographer and artist. His work was often featured in many prominent magazines and news papers. Johnny was kind, generous and always willing to help. He enjoyed cooking, reading, camping, fishing and spending time with family. Johnny was also a civil war buff. He had a great sense of humor and a talent for making people laugh. Anyone who knew Johnny knew that the most important person in his life was his daughter, Misty. The love he had for his daughter far surpassed any other thing in his life. He lived for his daughter. Misty was the absolute love of his life, the absolute reason he breathed. Once grown, Misty had two sons of her own and Johnny relished the role of being a grandfather. His grandchildren, Micah and Carmichael called him Pa-Pooh. Micah being the oldest grand child named Johnny Pa-Pooh. No one knows where Micah got this name but it stuck and he was always known as Pa-Pooh to his grandsons. Johnny loved spending time with Micah and Carmichael. He attended their ball games, birthday parties and anything else they wanted him to attend. Johnny would do anything that Misty needed him to do to help take care of the grand children. He was a very involved and hands on grandfather and he was so proud of his grandsons. Johnny was also a foster-father to Misty's half brother, John Stevens. He loved John as his own. Johnny was a role model and showed John what it was like being a part of a family. He tried to teach John the important things he needed to know to live a successful and productive life. John loved Johnny with all his heart. As family and friends come together today to bid farewell to Johnny, it is with a strong belief that we will all be re-united on that great day when we all get to Heaven. Johnny's mama always told his four sisters to take of their brother. And Mama, that is just what we did, we hope we made you proud. Services will be conducted on Monday, September 28th, at 2 o'clock pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Joe Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Mark Bilyeu, Joe Foster, Sean Black, J.J. Bilyeu, Jimmy Wayne O'Neal and Louis O'Neal serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 27th, from 4-8:00pm. and again Monday, September 28th, from 10am. until the hour of service.
