Brandon Shay Gillespie

Brandon Shay Gillespie, age 51 of Greenbrier passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin, TN. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Bro. Kirk Wall and Bro. Tol Burk officiating. Burial will follow in greenbrier Cemetery with Ryan Gillespie, James Binkley, Mitchell Binkley, Shane Gillespie, Caleb Gillespie, Dillon Carter and Michael Carter serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 4pm to 8pm on Tuesday, September 21st and 11am until 2pm on the day of service at the funeral home. He was born December 1, 1969 in Nashville, TN to the late Donald Gillespie and Nancy Gail Hooper Gillespie. He was also preceded in death by his step father, Thomas "Tom" Marion Hutton and brother, Donald Scott Gillespie. He worked for the City of Springfield as a Senior Equipment Operator and attended Skyview Church of Christ and Memorial Blvd. Church of Christ. As a boy, Brandon loved playing outside in his overalls, playing in the dirt, and with his trucks and tractors. He was adventurous and mischievous, and he loved to play pranks and aggravate people, which he carried into adulthood. However, if you had the privilege of knowing him, you would know that him aggravating you meant he liked you that much more. Much like his father before him, he did not care about accumulating worldly possessions but rather enjoyed time with his family and making memories. One of the people he enjoyed making memories with the most was his high school sweetheart who he quickly got married to, had a loving family with, and spent the last 33 years with. He became a father and a husband at an early age, with that being a challenge for a young person he did a fantastic job being a great provider and loving father. Outside of being a family man over the years he has enjoyed many things such as attending church, reading his Bible, fishing, traveling, and just being outdoors. A couple of things that he enjoyed most was having day long jeep adventures with his wife by his side, and having a good lake day with his family especially if it involved Dale Hollow Lake. A little over 3 and a half years ago, he got his wish of becoming a grandfather to a precious granddaughter who named him Poppy when she was able to first start talking. The last couple years he has enjoyed doing that most. Not only was he a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather to his immediate family, but he was also a wonderful son, brother, and uncle to the rest of his family. He was an all-around great person who truly had a heart of gold. He was the type of person who would not hesitate to help anyone and would not expect anything in return. He had beautiful blue eyes and a contagious smile – you just couldn’t help but to have a good time when he was around. It was truly a great honor to have had him be a part of our lives while on this earth. It wasn’t long enough but it reality, it never would have been. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Jo Flatt Gillespie; son, Ryan (Chelsey) Gillespie; daughter, Rachel (fiance’ Kris Cave) Gillespie; mother, Nancy Gail Hutton; brother, Shane (Mary Frances) Gillespie; sisters, Shannon (Larry) Jones, Sherree (Todd) Capshaw, Shonda (Michael) Carter; granddaughter, Claire Ann Gillespie and grandson, Chandler Shay Gillespie on the way.
