Barbara Crain

Barbara Crain, age 81, passed away in the company of her family on Friday, Nov. 30, at her home in Greenbrier, TN. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 3, from 3 - 8pm, and Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 10am - 12pm. at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier, TN. The funeral will follow at 12pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Greenbrier Cemetery. Barbara was born June 17, 1937 in Springfield, TN and is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burgess Fisher, her parents, Lillian “Mammy” and Clyde “Pappy” Crain, brother, Samuel Crain, sister, Charlotte Dunnivant, and grandson, Michael Burgess McCool. A teacher and librarian for over forty years, Barbara taught at several Robertson County schools throughout her career including Whitehouse, Westside, and Greenbrier Middle School. In retirement, she volunteered her time at the Greenbrier Historical Society Library, where she was a charter member, and she held various positions in multiple organizations, including the Robertson County Retired Teachers Association, where she was the Past President. Barbara was an active member of Greenbrier First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and held numerous offices within the church. She kept in contact with many of her former students, following their accomplishments and serving as a sounding board whenever needed. A world traveler, an avid reader, and a loving family woman, Barbara will be dearly missed for her guidance and wisdom. She is survived by her daughters, Lee Ann Fisher, Clarksville, TN, and Missy (Chris) Newsom, Smyrna, TN, her brother, Robert (Diane) Crain, her sister, Carolyn Haynes, both of Greenbrier, TN, her grandchildren, Melody McCool Street and William Burgess Fisher, her great-grandchildren, Lillian and Tanner Street, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Pallbearers will be Will Fisher, Robbie McAlister, Greg Crain, Steven Dunnivant, Bill Crain, Eric Opron, Gary Heflin, and Mark Bixler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tanner Street and the Greenbrier High School Class of 1954. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Greenbrier Historical Society Library. The family wishes to thank the wonderful care she received through Alive Hospice, Skyline Medical Center, NHC Homecare, Clarksville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and NorthCrest Medical Center.
